Assessment in a differentiated classroom should be a continuous process. Students should have the opportunity to express their concerns and problems as well as exhibit what they know and have learned. There are many ways that this can be accomplished in addition to traditional paper/pencil tests and quizzes. Students can be assessed by daily observation from the teacher during classroom learning activities. Students can demonstrate their knowledge through conversations, manipulation of materials, checklists, and through projects/displays. This information should be used to determine what student strengths and weaknesses are. It should be a tool that is used to plan for differentiation of lessons so that all learners are successful.
